Breathe Clean Air

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of disease, disability, and death in the United States, responsible for more than 480,000 deaths each year according to the US Department of Health and Human Services. Tobacco use is almost always initiated and established during adolescence, when kids believe they’re invincible and they are confident they can quit whenever they choose.

Quit Smoking

Quitting smoking is far and away the best thing a smoker can do for their own health and for the health of those around them. Quitters begin to repair their bodies within 12 hours of stopping, and the benefits snowball for the rest of their lives. Ex-smokers enjoy a reduction in incidence of cancers, heart disease, lung disease, and other accelerated signs of internal and external aging. Freedom from Smoking is a program developed by the American Lung Association. The 8 sessions teach and reinforce strategies to help smokers quit for good. Live Well St. Joe supports Freedom from Smoking classes and has sponsored training for multiple facilitators in the area. Contact us for class information.

Protect kids

Tobacco companies understand that they are killing their best customers. Like any good sales strategy, they look to replace lost business, and their target is youth. Every day in the United States, more than 3,200 youth under age 18 smoke their first cigarette —and more than 700 youth under age 18 become daily smokers—highlighting a critical need for stronger, targeted youth tobacco prevention efforts. Live Well St. Joe promotes programs and activities that encourage youth to not only NOT SMOKE, but to publicly denounce tobacco. The annual Monster Dash 5K and the Kick Butts Day Dodgeball Tournament are two of the active and healthy events organized by Live Well St. Joe to bring attention to tobacco prevention.
